"The American Modern Ensemble dedicates its time to American composers... this is a worthwhile organization with a strong fan base and performers of high-quality."
- The New York Times

North Country, our second program on January 25, features music by composers from the farthest reaches of the northern U.S. We will perform music by Libby Larsen and Stephen Paulus (Minnesota), Dennis Bathory-Kitsz (Vermont), Elliot Schwartz (Maine), John Luther Adams (Alaska), and Robert Paterson (Buffalo). Bass-baritone David Neal will be featured in the New York City Premiere of Paterson's Winter Songs. All of the composers will be in attendance for an on-stage discussion. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear these wonderful works, a few for the first time in New York.
What's So Funny? Our final program on April 27, will feature special guest star Peter Schickele, popularly known as P.D.Q. Bach, narrating his own work The Emperor's New Clothes. We will also feature AME's own Robert Gardner, singing works by Aaron Copland and David Heuser. The program will also include works by Robert Paterson and Vineet Shende, as well as the winning work of AME's Fourth Annual Composition Competition. This promises to be a humorous, fun-filled program!
Read a review of our inaugural concert at TheTimesCenter on September 29. Entitled Women Who Rock, this program featured music by eight of America's most exciting composers, including American Academy Award-winner Augusta Read Thomas, and New York's own Missy Mazzoli, Vivian Fung and Alexandra du Bois. We performed music by Gabriella Frank, Hannah Lash, Roshanne Etezady and Laura Schwendinger. AME's Artistic Director Robert Paterson interviewed the composers, and the concert was followed by a reception where audience members could meet all of the artists and composers.
AME's First Annual Fundraising Gala on October 27 at the Gitterman Gallery was a smashing success! We were joined by three of America's best-known composers, Peter Schickele (popularly known as P.D.Q. Bach), Aaron Jay Kernis and Lowell Liebermann. We performed music by all three, as well as a new piece for two cellos and piano by Robert Paterson.
